OVERNIGHT POLICY

Multi-day renters may choose to keep the rentals at their own dock if available, however, there is no operating rental vessels from Dusk to Dawn.

If you rent for multiple days and have access to a private dock, you are welcome to keep the vessel overnight, however, operation is prohibited from dusk to dawn. Boats must be secured to a dock and may not be moored to a buoy. We recommend that PWCs are moored via buoy as opposed to tied to a dock to avoid unwanted damage. You are welcome to keep the vessel at our rental location overnight if you prefer. Regardless of where you choose to leave the boat overnight, be mindful to properly secure the vessel and its bimini (if equipped) to prevent damage and avoid associated damage fees. Refer to our How to Tie a Dock Line section for tips on how to secure the vessel.

ARRIVAL TIME

Customers arriving after 10:30 AM will be charged a $50 service fee for rental team members staying past the morning rental shift. Customers who do not show or call by noon may have the rental canceled at the discretion of the manager on duty, and will not receive their deposit back.

LICENSING

All rental customers are required to obtain a boating license to operate vessels. Operators can obtain a free temporary boating license by passing the Power Boat safety examination on RentalBoatSafety.com (https://www.rentalboatsafety.com/power-boats). Operators can obtain a free permanent license by passing the BoatUS Safety course found at the following link https://www.boatus.org/virginia/. Please bring a virtual or hard copy of the passed certificate along with you when picking up the rental boat.

PET POLICY

Pets are permitted on boat rentals (not PWCs), although renters are responsible for any damage caused to the vessel. Renters may be charged a detail fee for excessive pet hair left on the vessel.

TRASH POLICY

Carry in what you carry out. Boats are expected to be returned in the same condition in which they leave, free of trash and clutter. A detail fee may be added for customers who choose not to pick up after themselves.

How to Tie a Dock Line

PUBLIC VS PRIVATE SIDE

Lake Anna is approximately 17 miles long from tip to tip, with 200 miles of shoreline. The lake is divided into two sides: the public side (also known as the "cold" side) and the private side, which serves as a cooling pond for the nuclear power plant. The public side is roughly 9,000 acres, while the private side is roughly 4,000 acres. The private side is formed of three main bodies of water, connected by navigable canals. The public and private sides are divided by three stone dikes. The private side has no marinas or public access ramps; only property owners and North Anna Power Station employees have access to the waters on the private side. The public side has several marinas and boat launches, including a boat ramp at an adjacent state park. The public side sees significantly higher boat traffic compared to the private side, especially on summer weekends.

The public side is known as the "cold" side because it provides water to cool the generators at the power plant; the private or "hot" side receives warm water discharge from the power plant. The private side can be substantially warmer than the public side, especially near the discharge point, where it can feel like a hot tub and be uncomfortable for swimming. Some water circulates back out of the private side into the public side through underground channels; consequently, the public side is warmer in the southern area near the dam. In the winter, some fish migrate to these warmer waters.

All boat rental locations are on the public/cold side of the Lake. Not sure which side of the Lake you’re staying on? Give us a call at 540-300-2833.
